Restoration of a fine Davenport by Richard Nice shows photographs before and after restoration some of the veneer had to be replaced and were possible the existing veneer was re-laid as the grain on the photographs show and the whole davenport was
re-French polished. This is a superb example of a davenport.
This photograph shows the sad state the davenport was in before restoration.
Here the knobs have been remove to facilitate French polishing.
You can see quite a lot of the original veneer was lost and the old veneer was peeling away from the ground work.
The old veneer was lifted and relayed and new veneer laid to replaced the lost veneer.
The gallery was in several pieces and there was quite a lot missing.
