Draw file the edge
square and straight
|
The Scraper works by the virtue that the edge of steel is formed into a hooked shape. When sharpened properly the scraper will produce shavings not just dust. But beware they do get hot in use!
The diagram on the right shows the shape of both
blunt and sharpened scraper.

2. This can be done in just three stages as shown on this page. But if a finer finish is required see the following page. Strop the edge of the scraper 12mm away from the bench edge as shown.

3. The best burnishers are made from old files round or triangular with the teeth removed. Triangular saw files I find are the best.
Hold the burnisher at 90degrees to the scraper before putting on any pressure when you apply sideways pressure you will find you should have the correct angle [85 degrees].
Bring it upwards smartly with sideways pressure. Do this just once or twice, remember you can burr off the burr youve just put on. Check by rubbing your thumb across the burr never along it [as you will only find out how easily your thumb will cut].
